SEEKS NEW DIRECTOR, January 22, 2003 Bill Henson, Director of
Burghley Horse Trials for nearly 20 years, has announced that he will be retiring
after this year's event (4th 7th September). Bill's tenure
has seen Burghley Three Day Event grow to become one of only four "4 star
Events" in the world - recently voted for the fourth time the "Best
Event in the World" by riders in the international publication L'Annee Hippique.
Innovation has been a hallmark of his term of office. During this
time we have seen features such as the irrigation and 'all year round' care of
the cross country track; the unique shopping experience which is the envy of so
many Shows and possibly most noted, the introduction of the very successful Young
Event Horse series. Always describing himself as a "Show Man",
Bill Henson has placed equal importance on the 'visitor experience'. Last year's
crowd was a record, a testament to the atmosphere created and enjoyed by so many.
The Burghley Committee is now tackling the task of finding a replacement
for this part-time post and an advertisement is due to appear in equestrian and
national media at the beginning of February. |
