is grateful to Julia Longland for the following comments and results. Terry
Boon jumped a double clear in Show Jumping, riding Foreign Exchange, to win the
Guardian Collections Bramham CCI*** on a score of 47.6. William
Fox-Pitt and Parkmore Ed also jumped a double clear to move up one placing from
third to second on 49.4.
Marie Ryan placed third with Sparrow Hawk (52.8),
who did have a rail in the stadium to drop one place, and fourth on Penny Royal
III (57.8), who jumped a double clear. Cindy
Collier Rawson placed 13th with The Gatecrasher, in his first CCI***. The Gatcrasher
is owned by Robert and Sara Futh, of Washington, Connecticut. The Fuths also own
Ashdale David's Way, with Cindy's father. Cindy placed 12th at the Burghley Masterfoods
CCI****, last fall, riding Ashdale David's Way. (Cindy and The Gatecrasher
are pictured below at the left, in 2001.)
Sally
Futh reports the following: "Cindy called ecstatic
that Harley (The Gatecrasher) went around clear at his first 3***. He was so
exuberant he overjumped into the first water so she had to take the long option,
and same at another fence, so 17 time faults and moved down from 9th after Dressage
to 13th; but, he was always a somewhat timid soul, so this is a welcome change
and can be tamed."
Sara
Kozumplik finished 7th in the Elite Under 25 Championship after Show Jumping clean
with As You Like It, for a final score of 85.0. Guardian

is grateful to Julia Longland for the following comments and results. Terry
Boon, 31, who won the Athens Olympic Test Event last August, in Greece, leads
the Guardian Collections Bramham CCI***, in spite of incurring 6.0 time faults
on the Cross country with Foreign Exchange for final score of 47.6. Terry and
Foreign Exchange had been second after Dressage. Julia
Longland points out that, "Boon is a former European Young rider Champion,
who gave up the sport in 1999 because it was too much of a financial struggle.
He returned because he missed it so much and went on to win the Athens pre-Olympic
event, after which he broke a bone in his foot and was off for a while. He led
at the Windsor three day event last month on Drivetime, only to trip up at the
second water jump across country. The horse was making a good comeback after being
out of action for 18 months with a leg injury. He (Boon) has a good record with
Foreign Exchange after winning at Belton (Lincs) and Withington Manor. "
Boon owns the French bred Foreign Exchange jointly with Preetha Balse, who went
to his yard as a 4 year old for sale as a hunter" Julia continued. "In
the end the horse was swapped for an event horse that had not made the grade,
and got his present name, For.Exch. hence the name. Boon waited until Sataturday
morning to decide whether or not to risk the hard ground."
"Sue Benson, course designer, is using an aggrovator, a machine which spikes
the ground and which Mark Phillips used on rock-hard ground at Gatcombe last summer,"
Julia continued.
Marie
Ryan, wife of the Australian Olympic Individual Gold Medalist from Barcelona,
1992, stands second, a mere 1.2 faults behind the leader. Marie, who rides for
Great Britain, partnered Sparrow Hall to a final score of 48.8. This pair rose
from fourth place after Dressage on the strength of their double clear Cross Country.
Julia
tells us, "Marie's husband, Matt Ryan, is having to travel to Poland in two
weeks to try to qualify Bonza Puzzle for Athens. The horse just missed out on
the correct (qualifying) time at Badminton and then got a corn when due to run
at Bramham." William
Fox-Pitt turned in a double clear with Parkmore Ed for a final of 49.4 to be within
one rail of the leaders going into Sunday's Show Jumping. William
Fox-Pitt had been the overnight leader after the Dressage Phase with his other
ride. Julia
Longland reports, "Moon Man (William Fox-Pitt) ground to a standstill at
Fence 22 (The Ripon Farm Services Den) on the Cross Country and retired. This
happened at the bridge at the Quarry at Badminton, ... and William put it down
to dislike of the muddy going. But as the Bramham ground is, I assume, perfect,
in this weather, it is clearly some other mystery factor, as Moon Man was a European
team gold medallist at Punchestown last September, finishing 8th individually."
Cindy
Rawson stands 13th with The Gatecrasher, having picked up 1.6 time on the Steeplechase
and 17.6 on the Cross Country for 71.0.
Sara Kozumplik is 11th with As You Like It in the Under 25 Division on 85.0. The
