Sunday, June 27th - Show Jumping

Advanced/Intermediate Division

Corinne Ashton and Dobbin jumped a double clear in the Show Jumping Phase and rose from third place overnight to win the Advanced Intermediate Division at Groton House II, on Sunday. Their winning score was 38.47. (Corinne and Dobbin are pictured at the right Show Jumping at Southern Pines, in March, 2004.)

Laine Ashker and Eight Saint James Place, who had made a bottle rocket rise from seventeenth after Dressage to fifth after Cross Country, on the strength of the only double clear scored all day Saturday, continued towards the stratosphere with a Show Jumping double clear to finish in second place on 41.74.

Jan Thompson upheld the honor of the Short Listed Riders and Alternates for the Athens Olympic Games by placing third with Task Force, who also jumped a double clear for a final score of 42.21.

Ten double clears were scored from 24 competitors in the final phase. Abigail Lufkin and Kildonan Tug, also from the Short List, placed fourth on 43.07. Kildonan Tug left all the colored tails in place; but, incurred 1 time fault on the course. David O'Connor, second overnight with Outlawed, had two rails and 3 time faults to drop to fifth, while the overnight leader, Jessica Moore riding Fibber Magee, dropped to sixth place when her mount pulled three rails.

The top placings in the A/I were:

1. Corinne Ashton, Dobbin - 38.47 (Dounle Clear)
2. Laine Ashker, Eight Saint James Place - 41.74 (Double Clear)
3. SL, Jan Thompson, Task Force - 42.21(Double Clear)
4. SL, Abigail Lufkin, Kildonan Tug - 43.07 (1 time fault)
5. SL, David O'Connor, Outlawed - 45.52 (8 jumping, 3 time)
6. Jessica Moore, Fibber Magee - 45.93 (12 jumping)

The other Short Listed and Alternate Competitors Scored as follows:

12. A, Karen O'Connor, Upstage - 55.57 (8 jumping)
13. SL, Heidi White, Northern Spy - 58.85 (3 time faults)
16. A, Jan Thompson, Shared Dreams - 63.25 (8 jumping, 4 time)
20. SL, Darren Chiacchia, Windfall - 72.73 (Double Clear)

 

Mark Weissbecker and Decordova won the Open Intermediate with a final score of 47.88. They pulled one rail. Liza Horan placed second with The Silver Prophet on a double clear, for 48.28. Darren Chiacchia, the overnight leader with San Salvador, had two rails down to drop to third on a score of 49.62.

Laine Ashker won the YR/OI riding Frodo Baggins on a score of 43.83.
