Olympic Show
Jumping Contender Royal Kaliber Will Not Compete in Aachen The
12-year-old Dutch stallion Royal Kaliber, one of the equine stars of the
American Olympic show jumping team, will not compete in Aachen, Germany, this
week due to a minor injury. Owner and rider Chris Kappler is waiting to
see how the horse will do and is hopeful for a full recovery.
On July 4,
at the Hachenburg CSI in Germany, Royal Kaliber slipped while making a turn during
the jump-off. Upon inspection by U.S. team veterinarian Dr. Tim Ober on July 12,
a strain of the left hind leg was detected. A more definitive diagnosis is yet
to be made. Royal Kaliber is currently being treated and is resting at a barn
near Aachen. He is being hand-walked several times a day At this point Royal
Kaliber and Chris Kappler remain a part of the U.S. Olympic show jumping team. July
