About Us
The Middleburg Horse Trials, September 25 & 26.

Intermediate

Open Intermediate Section 1 was won by Maya Studenmund riding Business Class. 16th after Dressage, this pair added nothing in the Show Jumping to move up to 10th; and ran double clear Cross Country, the only competitors in the section to do so, to finish on a score of 43.50 and win the Section by .20 of a fault.

Karen O'Connor and Joker's Wild placed second. Their 7.2 time faults Cross Country made the difference. These time faults added to their clear Show Jumping and to their 4th place Dressage score of 36.50 gave a final score of 43.70. Karen and Joker's Wild had an unhappy experience at the American Eventing Championships last week - a stop and a fall - so Middlburg's good run would have been a confidence builder.

New Zealand's Donna Smith, who is based with the O'Connors, rode David's former mount Dunstan Celtic to a third place finish on a score of 48.40. They were 2nd after Dressage - with 34.00 - added 4 faults in the Show Jumping, and finished the Cross Country with 10.4 time faults.

Open Intermediate Section 2 was won by Wendy Bebie and Phoenix. 3rd after Dressage, they produced double clears in both Show Jumping and Cross Country, only the second pair of the day, and the only ones in their Section, to make the time, for a final score of 36.0.

Phillip Dutton, who rode for Australia at the Athens Olympic Games, had a fast Cross Country for 3.2 time faults. This added to their 7th place Dressage score of 37.50 and a double clear Show Jumping gave a score of 40.70, good for second place.

Carol Kozlowski won the Dressage with Nordic Sparrow Hawk (33.5); but added 4 faults Show Jumping and 11.6 time faults Cross Country to drop to 3rd on 49.10.

Hens Gerlig won the IO/YR riding Leap on a score of 50.60.

Open Preliminary Sections were won by Karen O'Connor riding Bon Chance (35.00) and Adele Baker and Ruthertin Gent (35.5). Maenndra Palm rode All Star Secrt to win the Area II Open Preliminary Championship. In so doing she beat both Karen and David O'Connor each of whom suffered refusals on Cross Country and resultant time faults.
