Wednesday,
April 27, 2005 - The First Veterinary Inspection
39
horses trotted up before the Ground Jury - Angela Tucker (GBR), President; David
Lee (IRE); and Karen Winn (USA) at 3:00 PM Wednesday afternoon. Jennifer Millar
(NZL) is the Technical Delegate.
Two
horses were sent to the holding area - Amy Barrington and Platinum and Jan Thompson
with Task Force. Platinum did not pass upon re-inspection. Task Force was accepted
upon re-inspection.
Both
the Athens Olympic Games Individual Gold Medalist Leslie Law (GBR), and the Individual
Silver Medalist Kim Severson (USA) presented horses.
Leslie
brought the 11 year old British bred Thoroughbred/cross gelding Coup
de
Coeur, owned by Keith Scott of West Sussex, England. This spring, Coup de Coeur
placed 8th at the Burnham Market CIC-W*** and 11th in an Advanced Section at Belton
Park. In 2004 he was 12th at the FEI World Cup at Pau, France. (Leslie and
Coup de Coeur are pictured at the right.) Prior to the World Cup, Coup de
Coeur was ridden by Mrs. Rebecca Gibbs.
Kim
presented her two time Rolex winner and Olympic mount, the 12 year old English
Thoroughbred gelding Winsome Adante, as well as the 12 year old Irish Thoroughbred
Maguire. Both are owned by Linda Wachtmeister's Plain Dealing Farm, of Scottsville,
VA. (Kim and Winsome Adante are pictured at the left below.)
Multiple
time Australian Olympian and Team Gold Medalist Andrew Hoy was the winner of the
Burghley CCI**** last fall and is therefore eligible to add a second leg in his
pursuit of the Rolex Challenge, should he win Rolex. (The Rolex Challenge is a
$250,000 prize awarded to any rider who is able to win the Badminton CCI****,
the Burghley CCI****, and the Rolex-Kentucky CCI**** consecutively. This sought
after prize has been won only once - by Pippa Funnell (GBR), in 2003.) Hoy trotted
up Moonfleet, who last year besides winning Burghley placed 2nd at the Punchestown
(IRE) CIC*** and 9th at the Bonn Rodderberg (GER) CIC***. He is owned by Mrs.
Susan Magnier, of Fethard, Ireland. Mrs. Magnier is a well know owner of race
horses and the wife of John Magnier owner of Coolmore Stud (Ire) and Coolmore/Ashford
Stud on Route # 60, in Versailles, KY. (Andrew and Moonfleet, his 2004 Burghley
winner, are pictured at the right below.)
Hoy presented a second mount, Yeoman's Point, a New Zealand bred 12 year
old.
Yeoman's Point placed 6th at the Luhmuhlen (GER) CIC*** (GER) last year, as well
as 4th at the Boekelo (NED) CCI***.
America's
favorite Aussie, Phillip Dutton, who resides in West Grove PA, brings three serious
contenders. In fact Phillip was tipped to win Rolex by multiple US Olympian and
twice a former Kentucky winner, James C. Wofford, in The Chronicle of the
Horse (April 22nd issue.). Woffard picks Mrs. Annie Jones' 9 year old
thoroughbred gelding The Foreman, winner of The Fair Hill International CCI***,
without Steeplechase, last fall, as well as the Red Hills CCI-W*** and the Chatsworth
(North Georgia) CIC-W*** this spring.
Phillip
also presented Shannon Stimson's 14 year old Thoroughbred gelding Nova Top, who
was his Athens Olympic Games ride, and Bruce Duchessois' 14 year old Irish Thoroughbred
Hannigan. (Phillip and Nova Top are pictured at the left below.)
Also
trotted up and in with a good chance was Poggio II, Amy Tryon's Athens Olympic
Games Bronze Medal Team ride.
eventingetc
advises, "Watch out Kentucky - here come the Aussies!- better queue up the
Australian National Anthem along with the Star Spangled Banner!"
The
Dressage begins at 10:00 AM Thursday, with the Test Ride. The first ride in competition
will be Phillip Dutton (AUS) riding Hannigan. This pair goes at
10:30 AM.
As
the first Veterinarian Inspection ended, a few drops of rain fell. Mother Nature
was reminding everyone of the serious rain in store for Thursday.
