Karen
Winn, the well known American Eventing judge, who resides in Lexington, Kentucky,
and who will judge the Rolex-Kentuky CCI**** this year along with Angela Tucker
(GBR) and David Lee (IRE), has a life away from Eventing. She
breeds and show Black and Tan Coon Hounds. On
February 15th, at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, in Madison Square Garden,
NYC, Karen, an amateur owner handler, showed her own and Greg Butler's Champion
Clover Creek Velvet Touch to Best of Opposite Sex. Karen and
Butler also bred the successful
bitch, whose call name is 'Veeta. (Karen and 'Veeta are pictured at
the left in the Breed ring at Westminster. Photo courtesy of the Westminster Kennel
Club web site.) This
spring Karen is scheduled to judge the Red Hills CIC-W***, in Tallahassee, Florida,
in March and the Chatsworth (North Georgia) CIC***, in April, as well as Rolex. So
when Karen gives a three for a halt or an eight for a flying change, competitors
and spectators alike will know that she knows how it feels to have been judged
as well as how it feels to judge. |
