Poplar Place Farm March Horse Trials
March 25 - 27, 2005

The Poplar Place March Horse Trials, which ran on Easter weekend, in Hamilton, Georgia, were subjected to the severe weather which effected a good deal of the southeast. They were able to finish the higher levels; however, the lower levels, whose Cross Country had been scheduled to run on Easter Sunday, were unable to finish the three phases and were scored as a Combined Test.

Advanced Test "D" was won by Becky Holder with her handsome gray Courageous Comet. This pair was second after Dressage behind Bonnie Mosser and Jenga. A faster time Cross Country (1.2 time faults for Courageous Comet by comparison to Jenga's 3.6 time faults) put Courageous Comet into the lead. Both Becky and Courageous Comet and Bonnie and Jenga had one rail down in the Show Jumping, so Courageous Comet prevailed by 1.5 faults - 31.5 to 33.0. (Becky and Courageous Comet are pictured at the right jumping the skinny after the water at Southern Pines, 2005.)

Jennifer Carter finished third with Leaps & Bounds on a score of 36.5.

Advanced Test "C", Section A, which had 21 entries, was won by Sara Kozumplik riding The Middle Man on a score of 34.7. Sara bested Karen O'Conner and Upstage (40.2) by 5.5 faults. Leigh Mesher placed third on her own My Beau (41.7), who has been ridden internationally by Leigh's friend and mentor Amy Tryon.

Advanced Test "C", Section B, which had 17 entries, was won by Sara Davis on Dexter Wong. their score of 40.0 was 1.2 faults better than John Williams and Sloopy (41.2), the pair that placed second. Denise Rath and Just A Diplomat came third on 44.0.

The CIC** was won by Buck Davidson riding May I Tell Ya. This pair won in a run away, finishing on their Dressage score of 48.0. Buck also finished third in this section with Private Treaty (58.8). Megan McGregor and NZ Dip (58.1) slipped neatly into second place between Buck's two mounts.

Megan McGregor won The CIC* aboard Pipkin on a score of 50.0. Emma Winter, placed second riding Secret Decision (56.9), 6.9 faults adrift of the winners. Amy Tryon and Felix (58.5) finished in the third slot.
