Red Hills Horse Trials Show Jumping

Red Hills Horse Trials
Show Jumping, Sunday, March 13, 2005

Twenty-four horses Show Jumped on Sunday in the CCI-W*** at Red Hills.

Caroline Dowd, of Carthage, North Carolina, who stood in eleventh position after Cross Country with Raw Deal, had a bad fall and was taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected concussion.

Only three of those who completed jumped double clears over Sally Ike's difficult course.

Bonnie Mosser remained in 7th place on her double clear.

Jan Thompson and her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Byyny's Waterfront rose from sixth after Cross Country to fourth place on her double clear. (Jan and Waterfront are pictured at the right jumping off the bounce bank during Saturday's Cross Country. Ted Cushny Photo.)

Phillip Dutton rode Connaught to a double clear to rise from fourth to third.

Phillip, the consumate Cross Country rider, proved that he wasn't too bad a Show Jumping rider either! He and Mrs. Annie Jones' The Foreman managed just one rail down, for 4 faults, and 1 time fault for one second over the time allowed, for a total of 5 faults and a final score of 52.0.

Darren Chiacchia and Tim Holekamp's Windfall II, who had led throughout the competition, entered the Show Jumping arena last. They had one rail and 3 time faults in hand. Sadly, Windfall pulled two rails for 8 faults and a final score of 52.2. This opened the door just enough for Phillip Dutton and The Foreman, who had dogged Chiacchia's footsteps throughout the three days, to sneak through and grab the leader's position. (Mrs. Annie Jones and Phillip Dutton are pictured at the left with The Foreman, at the Fair Hill International CCI***, in 2004. Ted Cushny Photo.)

Phillip Dutton and The Foreman were the winners of the 2005 Red Hills CIC-W*** by .2 of a fault!
