2005
FEI Eventing World Cup Final, Malmö (SWE)
Press Release 3, 12 August
2005
Aussies Steal the Show in Sweden
Australia's Andrew
Hoy on Mr Pracatan took the lead after the Dressage phase of the FEI Eventing
World Cup Final held in Malmö (SWE). The pair produced a beautiful test,
which despite an imperfect final halt, earned them a remarkable 39.3.
"This
is not only my success but Bettina's as well," a delighted Andrew
Hoy said. Indeed, Andrew's wife, Bettina Hoy, who along with
Phillip Dutton (AUS), was in the lead of the 2005 FEI Eventing World Cup
standings, is not competing in the Final; but, has come to Malmö to work
with Mr Pracatan. Her efforts are paying off as this is a personal best for the
12-year old
gelding whom Andrew Hoy has been riding since 2001.
Another
Australian, Clayton Fredericks on Ben Along Time, and yesterday's leader
Piia Pantsu are tied for the 2nd place with 40.4.
Simone
Deitermann (GER) on Flambeau H and Magnus Gällerdal (SWE) follow
in 4th and 5th place with 43.7 and 45.6 respectively.
The
(2003 and 2004) title holder and home nation's favourite Linda Algotsson
was out of her usual splendid form producing an average result of 54.8 which puts
her in 21st place. However, she was not too disappointed about her performance
as her 12-year old gelding. Fair Dobbin is not the perfect Dressage horse as the
slightest movement may distract him. It is especially difficult to keep the concentration
at Malmö where the space is very open with the sea only meters away. Fair
Dobbin's stronger point is Show Jumping and, whereas the prospect of a third title
may be unluckly (sic) a good result is still possible.
Given
how tight the leading scores are, the game is still very much open. Malmö
offers a most unique setting for its Cross Country course enhanced by some truly
unusual fences. Horses must rise to the occasion of this challenging test and
both riders and spectators are looking forward to
excitement and excellent
sport.
