Saturday,
July 23, 2005, Cross Country Day
Corinne
Ashton, riding Dobbin, increased her overnight lead in the CIC** at
the Cosequin Stuart Horse Trials by riding a Double Clear Cross Country to
finish
the second day on her Dressage score of 37.2. (Corinne and Dobbin are pictured
at the right jumping out of the water at the Southern Pines Horse Trials this
spring.)
Mara
Dean, the leader after the first day of Dressage with Good Stuff, held
on to second place, though the pair added 5.6 time faults, for 14 seconds over
the time allowed on the Cross Country. This gave Corinne and Dobbin
a 9 fault cushion heading into Sunday's Show Jumping Phase.
Ralph
Holstein and Arctic Dancer's quick Cross Country for a mere .4 of a
fault moved them from ninth to third in the overall standings on a score of 49.2.
Kelli
Temple and Paris II dropped one slot to fourth place having collected
6.8 time faults over the country.
Five
competitors from the thirty-one who completed Saturday's Phase managed to go Double
Clear.
