Pye Wins the CCI**
Area V Wins the CCI** Team
Jessica
Pye of Lewisville, Texas, and Carte Blanche led throughout the CCI** Individual
competition at the Young Rider's Championshps held at the Virginia Horse Park,
in Lexington, Virginia. Their Dressage score of 47.3 put them in first place.
They maintained that position with a double clear Cross Country, over a course
designed by David O'Connor, and stayed in the winning position inspite of one
rail down in the Show Jumping phase.
Jessica
also led the Area V team, coached by Mike Huber, who rode on the USET's Team at
the World Championships, in Stockholm, Sweden in 1990, to the Team Gold Medal
in the CCI**. The other members of the Gold Medal Team were Bonner Carpenter,
Ashley Bailey-Classen, and Rebecca Brown. Rebecca won the CCI** at Jersey Fresh
on her Young Rider's mount, Twinkle Toes.
Laine
Ashker, of Crozier, Virginia, representing Area II, placed second in the
Individual
CCI** with Frodo Baggins. They maintained second place throughout on a Dressage
score of 48.5; 0.4 time faults Cross Country; for 48.9; and 8 Show Jumping faults
for a final score of 56.9 and the Silver Medal. (Laine is pictured at the right,
riding Eight Saint James Place, jumping out of the sunken Road at Rolex-Kentucky
this spring.)
Laine's
teammate from Area II Julia Briskin and Stina started in 18th place after the
Dressage Phase; moved up to 8th on the strength of a double clear Cross Country,
and moved into the Bronze Medal position with a double clear Show Jumping round
to finish on their Dressage score of 60.6..
Other
competitors who finished on their Dressage scores were: Bonner Carpenter (Area
V) and Acapulco Jazz (67.7 - 4th place); Ashley Bailey-Classen (Area V) on Ballynoe
Rum (64.6 - 6th place); and Waylon Roberts with Paleface (Canada) (71.5 - 10th
place.)
The
Area II Team (Julia Briskin, Ginny Bryson, Amy Mulhern and Lisa Barry) won the
Team Silver Medal on a score of 207.8.
The
Area III Team (Kate Luce, Rebecca Lynn Huy, Mary Beth Hudson, and Rebecca Baron)
finished in third place, the Bronze Medal, on a score of 230.6.

Chambers Wins the CCI*
Area II Wins the CCI* Team
Nate
Chambers, of Vienna, Virginia riding Rolling Stone II and representing Area II,
led throughout the CCI* to win that level on a score of 47.7. He also led his
team (Madeline Blackman, Julia Ward and Alexandra Zavoyna) from Area II to the
Team Gold Medal.
