Winsome Adante Atop High Point Leader Board
Winsome Adante Now Heads the United States Eventing Association's All-Time High-Point Leaderboard; Long-time Leader, Giltedge, Drops to Second

By Amy Daum

Linda Wachtmeister’s and Plain Dealing Farm’s Winsome Adante has taken the lead on the U.S. Eventing Association’s (USEA) All-time High-Point Leaderboard with a record career score of 1,184 points. (Winsome Adante and Kim Severson are pictured at the right in the Dressage Phase at the World Equestrian Games, Aachen Germany.)

Giltedge (1,114 points), who represented the U.S. on five international teams with David O’Connor, and who is owned by Mrs. Jacqueline Mars, has headed the all-time high-point leaderboard since his win at the Kentucky CCI**** in 2003 and is now in second place. Hannigan, owned by Bruce Duchossois has increased his score to 1,063, which keeps him in third place. (Hannigan and Phillip Dutton are pictured at the left below at Rolex Kentucky, in 2004.)Timothy Holekamp’s Windfall II is in fourth with 1,007 following wins at the Adequan USEA Advanced Gold Cup events at Millbrook and Richland Park.

Sydney Olympic Individual Gold medalist, Custom Made (942), owned by Joe Zada, is in fifth place with Richard and Vita Thompson’s Biko (860) in sixth. Leigh Mesher’s My Beau (834.5) is seventh, with Carrick (827), owned by the DePapp/Tichell/Williams syndicate in eighth. Will and Matt Faudree’s Antigua (807) stands ninth, (Antigua and Will Faudree are pictured at the Boat on the Island in the first water at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.) and Richard and Vita Thompson’s Upstage (802) is 10th.

With the fall season just beginning, the standings at the top may change as horses compete at the fall CCIs. The points are calculated on the horses who competed at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, and Windfall heads to the World Cup Final in Malmo.

Biko (a stablemate of Giltedge), who is also owned by Richard and Vita Thompson of Malvern, PA, previously held the all-time high-score points record, having won 860 career points. In 1999, Biko was named the USEA’s Horse of the Century and will be inducted into the USEA’s Eventing Hall of Fame at the USEA Annual Convention in St. Louis, December 7-10. The 2006 All-time High-Point Leaderboard will also be announced in St. Louis.

Editor's Note: The older and retired horses stand at a certain disadvantage because they all ran in the Long Format era. The active horses have run both Long Format and Short Format and are able to run more frequently under the Short Format.
