New Zealand Names Six to the Squad for the WEG
to Travel to Aachen.


The Team and Individuals for Aachen:

Alex De Luca Oliveira, (Waikato) Clifton Checkers - 14th in Advanced Section "L" at Aston Le Walls, July 22.

Joe Meyer, (Masterson & UK) Ease On Fire

Andrew Nicholson, (Waikato & UK) Lord Killinghurst - 14th at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton CCI**** in May and 1st in Advanced Section "L" at Aston Le Walls, July 22nd; or Tankersville, 3rd in Advanced Section "L"at Aston Le Walls, July 22nd. (Andrew and Lord Killinghurst are pictured at the right jumping into The Lake at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton CCI****.)

Donna Smith, (Waikato & USA) Call Me Clifton - 17th at the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** in April; 3rd at the Fork CIC-W*** in April..

The following appeared on the New Zealand Equestrian Federation web site regarding Donna Smith's addition to the Squad:

"Eventing Team Manager Blyth Tait said the injury (to Daniel Jocelyn's Silence) was a blow for Jocelyn but the selectors were able to announce a strong replacement.

"The new rider (added to the six member Squad when Daniel Jocelyn's Silence was injured at Aston Le Walls, in the UK) is Donna Smith formerly from Te Kauwhata; but, now based in the United States. (Donna and Call Me Clifton are pictured jumping "the Coffin" at the Rolex Kentucky CCI***.)

"Smith has been working with former USA Olympic Champion David O'Connor and his wife Karen in the US and will ride Call Me Clifton a 10 year old New Zealand Thoroughbred owned by Auckland's Frances Stead. This is the second horse named into the New Zealand Team for Stead who also owns Clifton Checkers ridden by Alex de Luca Oliveira.

"Smith and Call Me Clifton successfully completed the international Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event in May.

"Call Me Clifton was then kept in full work in the event of being required and Smith said he was fit and ready to travel to Europe."
