About Us
Plantation Field Horse Trials
September 23 and 24, 2006

In spite of competition from the American Eventing Championship, which came onto Plantation Field's dates at its debut two years ago, in 2004, Plantation Field outdrew the AEC's in the Advanced Section 38 horses to 16 horses - Plantation Field had more than twice as many horses at the Advanced level.

In addition, Plantation Field drew 19 horses in Open Intermediate Section 1 and 16 horses in Open Intermediate Section 2, for a total of 35 Intermediate horses. This compares to 21 Intermediate starters at the AEC.

Various reasons were given ranging from better going at Plantation Field; hilly terrain at Plantation Field, which improved horses fitness for the fall CCI's Radnor, Fair Hill and Virginia; the longer trip to Southern Pines for northern based horses; and the possibility of cooler weather in Pennsylvania than in North Carolina.

One wonders what the case will be when the AEC's move to Wayne, Illinois, in 2007.

Stuart Black won the Advanced Section at Plantation Field riding Fleeceworks Starlight, who finished on his Dressage score of 29.6, which was third best in the Section and one of only three to score in the twenties. (Stuart and Fleeceworks Starlight are pictured at the right above jumping into the Water Jump.)

Buck Davidson and Idalgo had the best Dressage score in the Section - 27.5; however, 5.2 time faults on the Cross Country and 1 time fault Show Jumping dropped this pair to second place on a final score of 33.7

Jan Thompson and Waterfront were the third pair to score in the twenties in the Dressage phase. They picked up 5.6 time faults on the Cross Country and 4 jumping and 5 time in Show Jumping to drop to 7th place over all.

Jan's problems opened the door to William Coleman III, who placed all three of his horses in the top five! Wild Frontier had only 2 time faults in Show Jumping to finish on 35.3 for 3rd place. (William and Wild Frontier are pictured at the left above jumping out of the Water Jump.) A Second Hope also picked up 2 time faults Show Jumping for a final score of 38.3 and fourth place; while Twizzle had 4 time faults in the Stadium for 38.6 and 5th place.

Wendy Lewis won Open Intermediate Section 1 with Galways' Blazer who added only 1.6 time faults Cross Country to his Dressage score for 31.3. (Wendy and Galways' Blazer are pictured at the right jumping the drop at the Foundation.)

Phillip Dutton and Lucky Stripe finished on their Dressage score of 31.7 to finish a mere .4 of a fault behind Galway's Blazer. (Phillip and Lucky Stripe are pictured at the left below jumping out of the Water Jump.) Sally Cousins and Tell Me Why placed third on a score of 37.3, addong only .4 of a time fault to their Dressage score.

Darrah Alexander won Open Intermediate Section 2 with Law and Order, finishing on their Dressage score of 27.9.

Carol Kozlowski and Take Time also finished on their Dressage score in OI/2; however, they were a full 9.7 faults behind the winners with a final score of 37.6. Holly Untermoehlen and Into the Future placed third on 43.6, 8.4 faults of which were time faults picked up on Cross Country.

Madeline Blackman won OI/YR on Gordonstown finishing on her Dressage score of 35.5. With one rail down in Show Jumping, Erin Spohr and Corner Street dropped out of the lead they had held after Cross Country to finish second on 39.1.

Kim Severson dominated the Open Preliminary Section 1 with two mares. Anastasia finished on her Dressage score of 24.4 to win the Section, while Wall Street Whisper also finished on her Dressage score, this time on 27.0 for 2nd place. (Kim and Anastasia are pictured at the right below jumping the last fence on the Cross Country Course.) Suzie Beale rode Petra to 3rd place 9.2 faults adrift of the leader. 30 horse and rider combinations completed the Section.

Kim also finished 8th, behind the leaders Wendy Lewis and Phillip Dutton, in Open Intermediate Section 1 with Tsunami, who finished on her Dressage score of 40.7 and finished 10th riding Choo Choo Magoo, who pulled a rail in the Show Jumping for a final score of 41.2.

Kerry Torry won Open Preliminary Section 2 on a score of 30.4 with Smokin One. India McEvoy and Le Grand Prix were 2.7 faults behind the leaders for 2nd place and Laura Jines placed third with Regal Wood on a score of 34.1.
