Friday, in Lexington, Virginia was an absolutely beautiful, if somewhat chilly, day. Temperatures in the high forties kept horses and people on theirtoes. The views of the mountains were chrystal clear and the fall colors were fabulous.

Corinne Ashton and Dobbin held on to their overnight lead inspite of 9.6 time faults incurred on Virginia's very hilly Cross Country course designed by David O'Connor. Their two day score was 51.8. (Corinne and Dobbin are pictured at the right jumping one of the tables at the Hobbit Houses.)

Sally Cousins and The Robber Baron came from a tie for tenth after Dressage to second place on a score of 54.3. (Sally and The Robber Baron are pictured at the left below jumping the Barrels off the Island at the Big Water.) This pair ran the fastest Cross Country along with Kim Severson and Tipperary Liadhnan. Both Sally and Kim added only 1.2 time faults to their Dressage scores for three seconds over the Optimum Time.

Kim and Tipperary Liadhnan rose twenty three places from twenty-eighth after a Dressage score of 57.5, to fifth after Cross Country.

Fanny Lee and Paddy the Pooh, who had been second after Dressage, dropped to fourth when they were twenty- nine seconds over the optimum time on the Cross Country for 11.6 time faults and a two day score of 55.3. (Fanny and Paddy The Pooh are pictured at the right below jumping the fence in The Frog Pond.)

This permitted Alison Springer and Arthur Maintain their third positionjust .1 of a fault ahead of Fanny on a score of 55.2 with 9.6 time faults on Cross Country.

Other fast trips across country included Mike Winter (CAN) and Wonderful Will, 4.0 time faults for eighth place; Carol Kozlowski and Mr. Suuffleuffagus and Dornin North with Lion Display, each of who collected 6.0 time faults for seventh and ninth places respectively; and Canada's Ryan Goss who rode Jus d'Orange to 8.8 time faults inspite of a refusal on the Cross Country course.
