Friday,
April 6 - The Second Day of Dressage
Friday
morning dawned cold and sunny; however, the sun was quickly frightened away by
clouds and a low temperature of 28 degrees which brought a white frost to
central North Carolina. The temperatures never rose above 48 degrees in spite
of the sun's return about noon time.
At the moment there is not much better
news for Cross Country Day. The Weather Channel is blasting forth frost
warnings for Friday night/Saturday morning and, just to make everything perfect,
there is a 30% chance of rain. Break out the long
underwear!
Jan
Byyny was the first of the Friday riders to break into the top five in the
CIC***-W, with her second ride in the section, the chestnut Waterfront. (Jan
and Waterfront are pictured at the right.)
Seven
rides later, on Friday, Amy Tryon, the Individual Bronze Medalist on Poggio II
from the WEG last August, in Aachen, Germany, rode Le Samurai to slip into third
place on a score of 43.4. (Amy and Le Samurai are pictured at the left below
at the counter canter.)
The
third rider to score well was Heidi White-Carty with the vereran Northern Spy.
This pair landed in sixth place on 45.0. Interestingly all three of the top Friday
riders to place on the Leader Board have represented the USA internationally.
Judges
Jo Young (Canada), the president of the Ground Jury, and Wayne Quarles, Lexington,
KY, managed to escape the oft-present disease of Fridayitis as Kim Severson
and Jonathan Holling held on to their tie for first place with their Thursday
rides, 3.1 faults ahead of Amy Tryon with Le Samurai, and 4.1 faults ahead of
Jan Byyny and Waterfront.
The CIC***-W Cross Country is scheduled to begin
at 12:38 PM on Saturday.
