Sunday, May 11 - Show Jumping

Amy Tryon, the overnight leader with Leyland, jumped one of the seven double clears over Sally Ike's designed show jumping course, to maintain her lead and win the CCI*** on Sunday afternoon. (Amy and Leyland are pictured at the right.)

Amy said of her Dressage ride with Leyland, which scored 52.4 and was good fo a tie for ninth place that they went in a hard rain squall and that". . . he tried to turn around in both halts. He wanted to turn his butt to the wind." Amy continued, " We don't have any expectations with these young horses. It takes so long to build up their strenght - for them to get stronger in their physique. His mind works faster than his body."

Buck Davidson, who had been fourth after Cross Country, also jumped a double clear to move up to second place with Ballynoecastle RM on a final score of 60.5. Buck said, "This horse (who was bred in Ireland) is only eight. He was as good as he can be in all three phases. I trust him like I have never trusted anything. I worried I was going to get over confident. I had a lot of horse at the end. A blind idiot could sit on him sideways!" Buck and Ballynoecastle RM are pictured at the left.)

Buck talked of calling Laine Ashker, still in hospital; but, due to be released this week. She is out of the ICU and in a private roomLaine told Buck to win - he alsmost did!

Jessica Phoenix, eighth after Cross Country, was able to move up to third place riding Exploring on the strenght of their double clear. (Jessica and Exploring are pictured on Cross Country at the right below.)

The other four horse and rider combinations, in the CCI*** who jumped double clears, but did not finish in the top ten were: Leslie Law and Fleeceworks Mystere du Val, who moved from twenty-first to fourteenth; Tory Smith and Bantry Bay V who moved from twenty-fourth to twenty-first; Madeline Blackman and Gordonstown who moved from twenty-fifth to twenty-second; and Barbara Crabo and Eveready who moved from twenty-ninth to twenty-eighth.

The necropsy report from the New Bolton Center (University of Pennsylvania) regarding David O'Connor's seventeen year old gelding Tigger Too, ridden by Lauren Kieffer, who died on Saturday at the Lighthouse fence, showed acute abdominal aortic rupture. "He had a belly full of blood," David stated.

"I saw him one hundred yards before he died. He wasn't tired at all." David reported. Then catastrophe struck.

Only two competitors, in the CCI**, jumped double clears over designer Sally Ike's Show Jumping course - Jane Jennings and Ringmoylan, moved from tenth to eighth and Wendy Lewis and Catalyst moved from eleventh to ninth.

The top five finishers each had one rail down so their positions remained the same as they had been after Cross Country.

Maya Black and Kejsarinna, who had been third after Dressage and had led after running one of four double clear Cross Countries, won the Section. (Maya is pictured at the left at a Press Conference.)

Maya said of Kejsarinna,"She definitely is quick on her feet. We call her "Shay". I got her when she was three. Ihave brought her along since I was sixteen. I am debating about doing Young Riders. It's my last year." Maya trains with Jan Byyny. "This is my first two star. (I told myself) ". . . to come in and ride like you do at home - take it jump by jump. The rail we did have was caused by me."

Carol Kozlowski, who is forty-nine years old, and Take Tme, who had won the Dressage, dropped to second with 2.0 time faults Cross Country, finished in that position. Carol lives in Geneseo, New York, south of Rochester. Take Time's owner, Lynn Blades, was Owner of the Year last year.
