Southern Pines Horse Trials

Saturday, March 22 - Cross Country Day

Advanced Test A

Nate Chambers and Rolling Stone II, last year's winners here at Southern Pines, came from fifth place after Dressage to take over first place on a score of 48.70. (Nate and Rolling Stone II are pictured at the right jumping the skinny after the Water Jump.)

The overnight leaders ran into a variety of problems. Karen O'Connor and Upstage, the leaders after Dressage, had a stop at the "Fat Man Skinny" just before the final water; and Will Coleman and Twizzel, second after Dressage, just left out fence # 17, for elimination.

Ashley Adams and Vaunted climbed from eighth place after Dressage to second after Cross Country on a scoreof 51.70. Wendy Bebie and Phoenix, sixth after Dressage, moved up the third place. Their two day score was 57.30.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 22, 2008

Official Statement Regarding Task Force from the
Southern Pines Horse Trials

By Joanie Morris

Raeford, NC - Task Force, owned by JC Chester and ridden by Jan Byyny, suffered a catastrophic hind leg injury and was humanely euthanized today during the warm up at Southern Pines II Horse Trials in Raeford, NC. Task Force, a 16-year-old Australian Thoroughbred gelding, had enjoyed a storied career in eventing with Jan. The pair enjoyed a long, successful partnership, including winning the Jersey Fresh CCI*** and representing the U.S. at the World Championships in 2006 and other international competitions. The Carolina Horse Park Foundation, the USEA, and the USEF extends their heartfelt sympathies to all of 'Jedi's' connections and friends on the loss of this great horse.

Please contact Joanie Morris, USEF High Performance Communications Manager, at jmorris@usef.org with questions.
