Nate
Chambers and Rolling Stone II, last year's winners here at Southern Pines, came
from fifth place after Dressage to take over first place on a
score
of 48.70. (Nate and Rolling Stone II are pictured at the right jumping the

The
overnight leaders ran into a variety of problems. Karen O'Connor and Upstage,
the leaders after Dressage, had a stop at the "Fat Man Skinny" just
before the final water; and Will Coleman and Twizzel, second after Dressage, just
left out fence # 17, for elimination.
Ashley
Adams and Vaunted climbed from eighth place after Dressage to second after Cross
Country on a scoreof 51.70. Wendy Bebie and Phoenix, sixth after Dressage, moved
up the third place. Their two day score was 57.30.

Advanced Test C:
Becky
Holder and Will Faudree had been tied on equal scores of 31.30 after the Dressage
phase. Becky and Courageous Comet picked up 1.2 time faults on the Cross Country
while Will Faudree and Antigua were 4.8 time faults slower, for a total of 6 time
faults, to drop to second place. (Becky and Courageous Comet are pictured at
the left jumping into the water.)

Tragedy
struck in this section when Jan Byyny's veteran Task Force broke a hind leg in

Official
Statement Regarding Task Force from the
Southern Pines Horse Trials

Raeford,
NC - Task Force, owned by JC Chester and ridden by Jan Byyny, suffered a catastrophic
hind leg injury and was humanely euthanized today during the warm up at Southern
Pines II Horse Trials in Raeford, NC. Task Force, a 16-year-old Australian Thoroughbred
gelding, had enjoyed a storied career in eventing with Jan. The pair enjoyed a
long, successful partnership, including winning the Jersey Fresh CCI*** and representing
the U.S. at the World Championships in 2006 and other international competitions.
The Carolina Horse Park Foundation, the USEA, and the USEF extends their heartfelt
sympathies to all of 'Jedi's' connections and friends on the loss of this great
horse.
