Advanced
Test A:
Wendy
Bebie and Phoenix, sixth after Dressage, had moved up to third after Cross Country
on a score of 57.30. Phoenix had two rails in the Show Jumping for a final score
of 65.30.
When
Ashley Adams and Vaunted, who had stood second after Cross
Country,
had four rails for 16 faults in the Show Jumping, Wendy moved ahead of that pair.
Finally,
Nate Chambers and Rolling Stone II, last years winners of an Advanced Section,
the overnight leaders went off courst in the stadium. Wendy and Phoenix moved
into the top slot. Wendy and Phoenix are pictured at the right during their

Wendy
said of the 16 year old Phoenix, "I am totally psyched! He feels so enthusiastic
about his job! This was his first Advanced. He just says 'Show me the jumps.'
The bigger they get, the better he jumps!" Wendy and Phoenix are planning
to go to the Jersey Fresh CCI***, in May.
Southern
Pines was Phoenix' second run of the season - he had gone Intermediate at Pine
Top the first weekend in March.

Advanced
Test C:
Karen
O'Connor rode the only two double clear rounds in the Advanced Test C show jumping
with Bad Boy Billy and Hugh Knows. Nonetheless, Becky Holder's four fault ride
with Courageous Comet made this pair's three day score of 36.50 good for first
place. (Becky and Courageous Comet are pictured at the left.)
Becky
had been tied for forst place with Will Faudree and Antigua after Dressage, took
the lead on the strenght of a faster Cross Country run and maintained her lead
with a four fault Show Jumping round.
Becky
said,"I changed to a hackamore This is his first Show Jumping in a hackamore.
Also I took the spurs off. Now he can really concentrate. I'd
been
trying different things - I just stumbled on it." Courageous Comet will be
going to The Fork (April 3-6) and then on to Rolex Kentucky. (Courageous Comet

Intermediate, Section A:
Four
out of the top six finishers in Intermediate Section A Show Jumped double clears.
As a result the top three finishers remained in the same positions they had acheived
on Cross Country while Gina Fiore, a Southern Pines resident moved from eight
place to sixth place on Feral Errol's double clear.

in Section A, the top placing horses in Open Intermediate Section B Show Jumped
Double clears.
Becky's ride Rejuvenate belongs to Dr. Ann Bowers and is a Dr. Bowers
homebred Thoroughbred/Oldenburg Cross. Becky her husband Tom are based in Wadesboro,
North Carolina, which is not quite a snowy as Minesota! (Becky and Rejuvenate
are pictured at the right jumping the Turtle Hutch in the water on Cross Country.)

Open
Intermediate Section C:
Michele
Mueller, of Port Perry, Ontario works with Ian Roberts. She
commented
that she had done a good deal of Amistad's conditioning work in the deep snow
(in Canada). She said that she had been a Dressage rider; but, that she had always
wanted to do Eventing. She spoke of driving along in the car and thinking about
riding Cross Country over the territory she was passing. (Michele and Amistad
are pictured at the left.)
Michele
is now based at Full Gallop Farm, in Aiken, SC.
Amistad
is 3/4 Thoroughbred and 1/4 Belgian Draft. Michele said, "He has gone from
being a goof ball to trying to listen."
Megan Correia, a student of
eight time Olympian Mike Plumb, was the only competitor in the top six of Open
Intermediate Section C, to jump a double clear Show Jumping round. Megan and Anyway
rose from sixth to third place..
