A
recent trip to a friend's birthday celebrations in Palm Beach, Florida, gave your
editor the opportunity to attend the Grade II Fountain of Youth Stakes for three
year olds at Gulfstream Park, in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The Fountain
of Youth is a prep for the Florida Derby as well as the Kentucky Derby. The
winner of this year's running - the 63rd renewal - was won by Edward P. Evans
Quality Road, trained by James A. Jerkins and ridden by John Velazquez. (Quality
Road is pictured at the right winning the Fountain of Youth.) The
favorites, Notonthesamepage and Capt. Candyman Can finished off the board while
Theregoesjojo (Kent Desormeaux) and Beetovan (Calvin Borel) finished second and
third respectively. (Quality Road ridden by John Velazquez is pictured below
center in the Winner's Circle.) On
Sunday your editor was able to attend the $150,000 CN CSIO Grand Prix at Wellington,
Florida a report of which will follow shortly.
