Boyd Martin Wins the CCI*** on a Double Clear Show Jumping with Ying Yang Yo

Boyd Martin and Ying Yang Yo, who had led the CCI*** after the Dressage Phase only to drop to second place after Cross Country with 11.6 time faults, put in a double clear Show Jumping round to regain the lead and win the competition.

The overnight leader Jan Byyny and Inmidair had two of the colored rails down and dropped to third place overall.

Becky Holder and Can't Fire Me who had hovered close to the top throughout the Three Day moved from second after Dressage to third after Cross Country with eight time faults and back to a final placing of second with one rail down in the Show Jumping.

Only four of the top ten jumped double clears in the Stadium.

Byyny, Lyman Set the Pace After Saturday's Cross Country in the USEF National Eventing Championships

Helen Murray

Elkton, MD- Clear jumping and quick trips across the country were the name of the game Saturday at the 2011 Dansko Fair Hill International. The rain that plagued the first two days of competition was nowhere in sight as the sun shone over Derek di Grazia's tracks. Heavy going resulted in time faults for many of the competitors and a shake-up on the leaderboard in both divisions. Jan Bynny and Kylie Lyman produced two of the quickest rounds of the day in the CCI3* and CCI2* to lead their respective divisions and USEF National Eventing Championships.

All will be to play for in Sunday's show jumping as one rail separates the top four in the CCI3*. In the CCI2* nine points divide first from tenth.

The Top Ten in the CCI*** After Cross Country:

1. Jan Byyny, Inmidair - 51.20 (4.40 time XC)
2. Boyd Martin, Ying Yang Yo - 52.00 (11.60 time XC)
3. Becky Holder, Cant Fire Me - 52.20 (8 time XC)
4. Willian Coleman III, Twizzel - 55.6 (9.20 time XC)
5. Allison Springer, Arthur - 55.60 (8.00 time XC)
6. Doug Payne, Running Order - 58,20 (11.20 time XC)

10. Emily Beshear, Here's to You - 61.60 (7.2 time XC)
(35 finishers from 45 starters. Only two competitors ran a Double Clears XC - Peter Atkins with H J Hampton and Daniel Classing with Houston, 17th after XC)

2011 USEF National CCI3* Eventing Championship

Bynny (Purceville, VA) rose from fifth place after the dressage to lead the CCI3* on her own Inmidair with a score of 51.2. The 12-year-old New Zealand Thoroughbred gelding rocketed around the 10:08-minute course, adding just 4.4 penalties.

"My horse was awesome today; it was easy for him," Byyny said.  "It was not always pretty but he was great." Bynny is making her return to the CCI3* level after taking time away from the sport following a fall in spring 2010; Phillip Dutton rode Inmidair much of last year in Byyny's absence. "I'm lucky because Phillip has done a lot of work on him because of my time off. I'm lucky to have my family here as well. I've just taken it one day at a time and I'm enjoying the moment."

Regarding the footing, Byyny commented: "It was sticky and it was holding feeling but he's a small horse lucky for me. But they [the organizing committee] have done the best they could. The event has been great that way."

Dressage leader Boyd Martin (West Grove, PA) added 11.6 time faults on his own and Faye Woolf's Ying Yang Yo to sit second in the CCI3* and National Championship on a score of 52.

2011 USEF National CCI2* Eventing Championship After the Dressage Phase

Lyman (West Hartford, VT) heads the CCI2* with Jeff and Joan Nichols' Trading Aces on a score of 48.7. The seven-year-old Irish-bred gelding added only 1.2 time faults to his third-placed dressage

score. Lyman has been to Fair Hill International on a few occasions but 2011 marks her first year riding in the autumn fixture.

"I'm super, super excited to be here," Lyman said. "I've groomed a couple times, but this is my first time riding. I'm lucky my horse is so much fun." Lyman found the 8:52 minute course rode tough in places, but was happy with her effort. "I struggled a little with the drop to the table to the corner [Fences 10 and 11AB]. It didn't feel particularly pretty, but I have to get over that. It was super fun and galloping."

Lyman was very impressed with her horse's effort throughout the course. "He's still young and had a lot of fun doing it. He's had a quick run up through the levels and so have I. His owners Jeff and Joanie Nichols are super supportive."

Will Faudree (Hoffman, NC) and Jennifer Mosing's DHI Colour Candy stand second in the 2011 USEF National CCI2* Eventing Championship on a score of 51.9 following a double-clear cross country round.

Kadi Eykamp of Australia is second in the CCI2* with Double Rivers Really Cool on a score of 49.5.

Martin, Beebee Lead USEF National Eventing Championships as Dressage Concludes

Helen Murray

Elkton, MD- Riders completing their dressage tests Friday at the 2011 Dankso Fair Hill International put in impressive efforts as scores dipped lower and lower into the 40s and spectators and riders alike were subject again to intermittent rain showers throughout the day. Heading the field in their respective CCI divisions and the USEF National Eventing Championships, which are held in conjunction with the Dankso Fair Hill International, are Boyd Martin and Susan Beebee.

Martin and Ying Yang Yo lead the CCI3*, while Beebee and Wolf head to the cross country out in front in the CCI2*.

Martin (West Grove, PA) rode in a deluge of rain Friday afternoon but that did not stop him from piloting his own and Faye Woolf's Ying Yang Yo to the top of the leaderboard. The ground jury of David Lee, Sue Baxter and Christian Landholt rewarded the 15 year-old Australian Thoroughbred gelding with a score of 40.4.

"He's a good old horse. We know each other so well and he's very well trained now. He produced a nice, soft accurate test with a bit of flash today," said Martin of the horse he has competed in just two horse trials in the past few years. "Last time I rode him in an international competition was Rolex in 2008. He was still very young but not all that sound. Eliza [Woolf's daughter] has been competing a bit and lo and behold he's gotten over those niggling injuries."

Martin is looking forward to the cross country track, designed by Derek di Grazia. "It's a long grueling Fair Hill course. It's going to require smart riding and fit horses. My horse is very confident and happy and super fit."

Becky Holder stands second in the USEF National CCI3* Eventing Championship and the CCI3* with Melissa and Phil Town and Tom Holder's Can't Fire Me on a score of 44.2.

As the last CCI2* competitor in the ring Friday, Beebee (Vass, NC) did not disappoint riding Plan Bee Equestrian's Wolf to an impressive score of 41.7. Beebee and the eight-year-old

Dutch Warmblood gelding head into Saturday's cross country four points clear of the rest of the USEF NationalChampionship and two-star fields.

"I'm lucky Wolf is a very nice horse, he doesn't find the atmosphere much of a bother. I'm lucky to ride him, he makes me look good." Beebee knew she was poised for a top performance as she was completing her warm-up. "Five minutes before the test I felt him come up through his back and take me around. He has the most fun medium and extended trot of any horse I have ever ridden."

Looking toward cross country, Beebee believes she will find out a lot about Wolf from di Grazia's design. "It's a typical Derek course; not trappy but lots to do. The footing is going to show if Wolf is a mudder."

Courtney Cooper (Nottingham, PA) stands second in both the National Championship and CCI2* after riding her own and Neal Camen's Who's A Star to a score of 45.8.

The Top Six in the CCI**:

1. Susan Beebee, Wolf - 41.70
2. Courtney Cooper, What A Star - 45.60
3T. Kadi Eyecamp (AUS), Double Rivers Really Cool - 47.50
3T. Andrea Leatherman, Mystic My - 47.50
