November 9, 2003 Boyd Martin wins 2003 Mitsubishi
Adelaide CCI**** International Horse Trials
A relative equestrian newcomer
24-year-old Boyd Martin has overcome a more experienced field to win the
2003 Mitsubishi Adelaide CCI**** International Horse Trials. Boyd Martin,
from New South Wales, who ended on 52.40 penalty points, was the overnight leader
on True Blue Toozac. (Martin and Toozac, 10th after the Dressage Phase,
had the fastest Cross Country round picking up only .04 of a time fault.) Martin
took the winners title over Sydney 2000 Olympic (Team) Gold Medallist Stuart
Tinney, on Jeepster, with 57.60 penalty points. (Tinney and Jeepster
had 12.4 time faults on the Cross Country.) Martin is the youngest
rider to have won the Mitsubishi Adelaide International Horse Trials. (The

Tinney, also from New South Wales,
jumped from fourth position overnight to grab second place and further enhance
his chances of inclusion in the Athens Games equestrian team. Third placed
was Sammi McLeod (NSW), riding Enchanted, ended on 61.40 penalty
points. (Sammi and Enchanted had 5.6 time faults on Cross Country, for 2nd place;
but dropped to 3rd with two rails in the Show Jumping.) Fourth was Sonja Johnson
(WA), on Ringwould Jaguar, with 66.00 penalty points. Fifth was Rebel
Morrow (NSW) on Oaklea Groover, (Rebel had been 3rd after Cross Country;
but, dropped to 5th with 10 time faults in the Show Jumping), on with 70.80 penalty
points. And sixth was Wil Enziger (Vic), on Feurikus, with 75.60
penalty points. (Only one competitoe had a double clear in the Show Jumping.) Results
of the Two Star - (Division I: First - Sonja Johnson (WA), on Foreign
Liaison, 55.70 penalty points. Second - Tarsha Hammond (NSW), on Balmoral
R-Jay, 64.50 penalty points. Third Janelle Pitts (Vic), on Mr Showoff,

Conway (NSW), on Gordonstoun, 54.90 penalty points. Second Olivia
Bunn (NSW), on GV Sterling Sioux, 58.80 penalty points. Third Heath
