Pan
American Championships, Cross Country
2:10
PM Saturday, News Flash: David O'Connor had a fall with Dunstan Celtic on the
Cross Country in the Fair Hill International CCI***. He has been taken to hospital
with suspected broken ankle and suspected broken wrist. Please check with these
pages for further news as it becomes available.
David
O'Connor, of the Plains, VA, the reigning Olympic Individual
Champion, leads the Pan American Championships, riding as a USET Official Individual,
with Courting Danger, on a score of 51.6. Courting Danger, owned by Beatrice Cassou,
of Coatesville, PA, ran a double clear over the Derek De Grazia designed Cross
Country Course at Fair Hill, MD. (David and Courting Danger are pictured at
right.)
Darren
Chiacchia, also riding as a USET Official Individual, with the Trakehner stallion,
Windfall 2, the overnight leaders, fell to second place when Windfall picked up
8.8 time faults on the Cross Country. The pair's final score of
52.4, puts
them .8 of a fault adrift of the Olympic Champion. (Darren and Windfall 2 are
pictured below at left.)
Will
Faudree, a member of the US Team, whose home town is Midland, Texas; but, who
lives and works in Norwood, North Carolina, is in third
position
with the 14 year old Australian Thoroughbred Antigua. Will and Antigua ran a double
clear. (Will and Antigua are pictured below at right.)
The
American Team is in first place on a combined score of 170.0:
9. Bobby Costello,
Dalliance - 66.8
3.
Will Faudree, Antigua - 53.0
5. Jan Thompson, Shared Dreams - 58.4
6.
Stephen Bradley, Brandenburg's Joshua - 58.6
The
Canadian Team is in place on a combined score of 301.0:
12. Mike Winter, Ballista
- 88.8
Penny Rowland, Aberdare - withdrew in the "D" Box
16.
Hawley Bennett, Livingstone - 117.8
14. Bruce Mandeville, Larissa - 94.4
Unfortunately,
the Brazilians did not finish a Team:
20. Guto De Faria, Gap TW - 195.2
Lourenco Vieira Da Silva, Garbo Da Mata - withdrew in the "D" Box
19. Raul Bernardo Nelson
De Senna, Super Roky - 177.0
Rafael Mauricio De Gouveia, Jr. - Elim. fell
@ # 21
The
even more ironic news for the Brazilians is that, had they run Paulo Eduardo Limongi
Pacheco, who finished 18th on a score of 154.8, riding Planetarius Jmen, in the
team, they would have finished a team.

Tim
Collins, riding for Bermuda, had this fall from Delton Magna at the fence after
the first water. Neither Tim nor Delton Magna were injured; however, Tim decided
to retire.
